Day 1: JHB - Lowveld & Greater Kruger National Park

Depart from Johannesburg @ 06:30 AM

As we depart Johannesburg, our journey leads us on some of the most scenic roads down to the Lowveld region of South Africa, known as Mpumalanga. On route, we will be stopping for brunch in the historic town of Dullstroom, known as the fly-fishing capital of Southern Africa and notorious for the best trout dishes (the local fish species). After our brunch stop, we continue our journey down the Drakensberg escarpment via Abel Erasmus Pass and into the untamed Lowveld. The road will take us on a windy pass through high rising mountain cliffs as well as passing some waterfalls if there has been some rain.

We spend the next two nights at a lodge, which is situated in a private reserve within the Greater Kruger National Park, allowing us the opportunity to see animals and already start experiencing the beauty of this country.

  • Meals included: Dinner
  • Driving distance: 480 KM

Included highlights:

  • Scenic drive to the Lowveld region
  • Exclusive private bush lodge
  • Dullstroom
Day 2: Lowveld & Greater Kruger National Park

Our first morning waking up in the African Wilderness. We will enjoy an early morning coffee and rusks as we watch the sunrise. This morning we embark on a bushwalk, where we get to experience the ways in which the animals move around and to learn more about the smaller, intricate details of how everything in nature fits together. This morning we will focus on the tracks and signs that the animals leave behind as they go about their daily lives and
also to point out any interesting facts along our walk. Our guide and/or tracker lead all walks. If we encounter animals on our walk, it would be a bonus as their senses are usually much better than ours. Before the heat of the day, we slowly make our way back to the lodge where we will enjoy our brunch. Later in the afternoon, when it starts cooling down a bit and the animals become more active, we will head out on an afternoon game drive. Here we will cover a bit more distance and gives us a great opportunity to spot some animals. Keep your eyes open as we will be searching for some of the animals that inhabit the area. Our guides are very well trained to spot the animals and would share some amazing info with you upon any encounter. After our game drive, we slowly return to the lodge to enjoy our dinner and to share some stories around the campfire about the things we have seen today.

  • Meals included: Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner
  • Driving distance: 20 KM

Some of the highlights today include the third largest canyon in the world, known as the Blyde River Canyon, then we move on to Bourke’s Luck Potholes, Gods Window, and stop for our own expense lunch in the little town
of Graskop. The panorama route really offers some of the most unique and captivating scenery in South Africa and we will spend a good amount of time at each stop to make sure we enjoy what we
see and get the full experience. In the afternoon we make our way to Hazyview where we will settle in for the next two nights.

Day 4: Greater Kruger National Park

Today we get up early as we want to enter the Southern Section of the Kruger National Park as soon as we can, for our full day of game viewing. The Southern section of the park offers the opportunity to see some different species of animals like Rhino, Wild Dogs, Herds of Buffalo and Elephant as well as other predators like Lion and Hyenas because the South usually has a bit more water, naturally attracting more animals. Our day is dedicated for driving around in search of these animals, however, we will stop regularly at some of the parks’ rest camps for some leg stretches and comfort breaks as well as some waterholes on the route. Late in the afternoon, we exit the park and head back to our accommodation for the night.

  • Meals included: Breakfast and Dinner
  • Driving distance: 100 KM

Included highlights:

  • Southern Section of the Kruger National Park
