Overview

Situated in the heart of Cape Town, the project offers shelter to young woman and their children who come from homeless and/or abusive backgrounds.

As a volunteer, you will be working with the children at the day care center daily and also help staff members at the reception and warehouse areas.

Some of the children who come from abusive backgrounds requires a lot of attention, care and love.

The project’s vision: 

They aim to see women & children living free from abuse, poverty, and discrimination by offering care and social empowerment.

The project’s vision:

They seek to provide shelter and support for pregnant, abused and homeless women with children. Through their holistic self-empowerment program, they try to achieve these goals by developing social, creative and vocational skills within the framework of values, discipline, and a culture of mutual learning, accountability, and respect.

A typical workday at the project:

Workdays are Mondays – Fridays from 08:00 AM – 17:00 PM with weekends (Saturdays & Sundays) being free time. If you are requested to work on a weekend, you will get another free day the following week.

Monday

08:00 – 17:00

·         Assist at reception by answering the telephone when the reception staff is on lunch.

·         Assist at the creche by changing nappies, feeding babies & playing with babies.

·         Assist with the facilitation of workshops with mothers.

·         Assist with filing and other administrative work.

·         Keeping the mothers’ company.

·         Helping children with homework.

·         Playing with older children after homework has been done.

Tuesday

08:00 – 17:00

·         Assist at reception by answering the telephone when the reception staff is on lunch.

·         Assist at the creche by changing nappies, feeding babies & playing with babies.

·         Assist with the facilitation of workshops with mothers.

·         Assist with filing and other administrative work.

·         Keeping the mothers’ company.

·         Helping children with homework.

·         Playing with older children after homework has been done.

Wednesday

08:00 – 17:00

Volunteers will stay at a fully-furnished apartment located off-site of the project. The apartment is shared with other volunteers and is self-catering.

Important:

  • Meals are not included (Volunteers need to buy food and cook together)
  • Volunteers are expected to keep the apartment clean and tidy between themselves.
  • Volunteers should respect the house rules which are given prior to arrival
  • No form of substance abuse will be tolerated at the project or accommodation.
