This program offers a rewarding opportunity to directly impact the lives of people with disabilities in rural South Africa.

How you will get involved:
  • Assist with arts and crafts projects for fundraising.
  • Lead physical activities for children in the daycare.
  • Assist with administrative tasks (filing, social media, documents).
  • Accompany staff on home visits to identify individuals with disabilities.
  • Help with office maintenance and fundraising events.
  • Plan and execute programs for children and young adults.
  • Distribute donated food and clothing.
  • Accompany disabled clients on outings.
  • Assist with building wheelchair ramps for accessibility.
Additional information:
  • Schedule: Monday-Friday (9:00-5:00), occasional weekends/evenings (time off provided).
  • Languages: The locals most speak Afrikaans and English.

Accommodation:

Comfortable accommodations await you during your program. Stay at our volunteer house, conveniently located near the school. Choose from shared or private rooms (subject to availability), some with en-suite bathrooms. A fully equipped kitchen is available for your convenience, allowing you to prepare meals as you wish.

Meals:

Enjoy three daily meals included in your stay. Enjoy a self-serve breakfast, packed lunches for busy workdays, and hearty dinners. We strive to accommodate all dietary needs. Please specify any special requirements when booking.

Marine Marvels and Whale Watching

Hermanus is synonymous with whale watching, attracting visitors from far and wide to witness these majestic creatures in their natural habitat. From July to November, Southern right whales migrate to the area to calve and mate, providing an unforgettable spectacle for nature enthusiasts. In addition to whales, Hermanus’ waters are teeming with a variety of marine life, including dolphins, seals, and penguins.

1. Complete application form and confirm booking details

Complete our simple application form. One of our dedicated travel experts will contact you within 24 hours to discuss your dream South African holiday and confirm your travel preferences. Once we’ve finalized the details, we’ll provide a provisional booking confirmation.

2. Provisional confirmation, invoice, and contract

Once your placement is provisionally confirmed, we’ll send you our invoice and contractual agreement. To secure your booking, please return the completed agreement and make the required deposit payment.

3. Booking confirmation

Upon receipt of your deposit payment and completed contractual agreement, we’ll send you an updated invoice (reflecting your deposit), a confirmation letter detailing your trip details, and a comprehensive volunteering handbook.

We’ll also provide guidelines for booking your flights and any necessary additional transportation during your stay.

4. Balance payment, flights, and insurance

The remaining balance of your invoice is due one month before your arrival. Please send us a copy of your flight details and insurance before you depart.
